At 21, Calla hasn’t done a lot of things. She’s never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.
But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought shed left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming. Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla’s business from they moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn’t give them her mom.
Hi everyone! *waves* The 31st of March comes out the next book in the Wait for You series and I’m so excited, mainly because I just finished this one and the next book is about Roxy aka my spirit animal, so I’m very curious about what its going to go down between her and Reece. But we will talk about that in another review soon, this one is for my babies Jax and Calla.
Calla is a girl who I think most of us can relate to in some way, even if we don’t share life experiences. She is very self conscious and scared to open up to other people, scared of being hurt. When she was a kid she went through a terrible time when she survived a fire but her brothers died in it. After that terrible night her father left her and her mum became a drug addict. Not the coolest experience to go through… The worst thing for her was that the accident left her with big scars all over her body so she is ashamed of it, ashamed of herself. Well, until she meets Jax.
“I think about how these fucking scars shaped your life. How they’ve beaten you down when you still are one of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever seen and these scars don’t even touch that. They aren’t anything compared to your smile or your pretty blue eyes or that sweet ass.”
Jackson “Jax” James is potentially the love of my life. No, seriously. When Calla has to go back to her home town looking for her mother she meets Jax. I think the best way to describe him would be a dirty mouthed sweetheart. She is crazy for Calla since the beginning but it takes her a bit to realize that due to her insecurities and Aimee with two e‘s. Calla finds out that she is not the only one who has gone through some tough stuff or the only one who has scars, even if they are not physical.
Calla learns to love and trust, and with Jax’s help she will realize she is much more than just physical beauty.
“You are perfect, you know that?”
“No, I’m not.” I smiled, though, because I liked that he thought that.
“Whatever. If I say it, it’s true.”
This book was so cute and it actually had me tearing up towards the end, plus our favorites (Avery, Cam, Teresa and Jase) perform some cameos in the book, and they are still as hot and cute as in the previous books. So if you like the J. Lynn books or the Wait for You series you CAN’T miss this book!
